WOVEN BAOULE FROM WEST AFRICA
The baoule (pronounced ba-oo-lay) is textile from the Côte d'Ivoire in Western Africa are handmade from colorful cotton threads. Each strip is sewn together to create a larger piece of fabric that is often worn at community gatherings.
SEWN IN CHICAGO BY A REFUGEE SEAMSTRESS
This throw was handmade by a refugee woman who has resettled in Chicago. By partnering with RefugeeOne’s vocational sewing program, we are able to provide graduates with meaningful employment and a living wage to rebuild their lives.
