The story of batiks not only preserves the ancient craft of pouring hot wax onto a cloth to create geometric patterns, but also empowers women artisans who are able to use their art to make a sustainable income and support themselves and their families.

This pillow was handmade by a refugee woman who has resettled in Chicago. By partnering with RefugeeOne’s vocational sewing program, we are able to provide graduates with meaningful employment and a living wage to rebuild their lives.
